Tree permits & town requirements.
Some Long Island towns and villages require a permit before certain trees can come down, and the rules change the moment you cross a village line. Where your removal is regulated, we prepare the application, file it with the arborist sign-off and insurance documentation, post what the town requires, and chase it until the approval is in hand. Work starts only when the job is clean with the village. The whole process is our errand, not yours.
Why this comes up at all.
Tree regulation on Long Island is local. A removal that needs nothing on one street can need a filed application, a posted notice and a waiting period a few streets away, because the jurisdiction changed. The rules also tend to key off things a homeowner has no reason to have measured: where the tree sits on the lot, what species it is, how large it has gotten, and whether the property carries any protected status.
That is why we check before we quote a date, not after. Finding out mid-job that a removal was regulated is how a straightforward tree turns into a stalled site and a problem with the village.
What we handle.
- Check the jurisdiction. We confirm which town or village governs your property and whether the specific removal you want is regulated there.
- Prepare the application. We complete the paperwork the municipality asks for and assemble the supporting documentation with it.
- Get the arborist sign-off. Permit-regulated removals are reviewed and signed off by our Designated ISA Certified Project Arborist.
- File and post. We file with the town and post whatever notice the municipality requires on the property.
- Track it to approval. We follow the application and chase it until the decision is in hand.
- Then we schedule. Work starts once the approval is issued, never before.

Where a town requires professional review, the removal is signed off by our Designated ISA Certified Project Arborist, an external designation we hold an active relationship with. That sign-off is part of the filing, and it is included in the permit work rather than something you arrange separately.

- The property address, so we can confirm the jurisdiction
- Access to walk the property and see the trees in question
- Confirmation that you own the property, or authority to act for the owner
- Anything you already know about protected status, easements or prior town correspondence

This is a permitting service, not legal advice. We prepare and file the paperwork and we deal with the municipality on your behalf, but the town or village makes the decision, and we do not promise a particular outcome on a regulated removal. If an application is denied, we will tell you plainly what the municipality said and what your remaining options look like.
