What a landscape design consultation actually covers.
Most people picture a design consultation as someone showing up with a portfolio and a pitch. Ours is closer to a working session: on your property, about your property. Here's what it actually covers.
It starts with how you live in the space
Before anyone talks plants or pavers, we walk the property and ask the questions that decide everything downstream. Where do you actually spend time outside? What do you host, and how many people? What do you look at from the kitchen window? Which parts of the yard do you avoid, and why?
The honest answers shape the design more than any style preference. A beautiful plan for a yard you don't use that way is just an expensive drawing.
Then the ground gets a say
The second half of the walk is about what the property will and won't allow:
- Sun and shade: where the light actually falls through the day, not where we wish it did
- Grade and drainage: where water goes now, and where it would go after any change
- Soil and existing plantings: what's thriving, what's struggling, what's worth keeping
- The trees: what the canopy shades, what it drops, and anything that needs a professional call before you build near it
- How the pieces connect: the routes you walk every day, from the driveway to the door to the yard
This is where design-build earns its keep early: the people assessing your grade are the people who will have to make it drain right, so nobody glosses over a problem the drawing can't see.
What you walk away with
A direction, in plain terms: what we'd do, in what order, and why, including what not to build yet. Larger properties usually phase the work so each stage stands on its own and the property never feels like a construction site. Why one crew, start to finish
When design and build live in separate companies, every surprise becomes a negotiation between a drawing and an excuse, and you referee. With design-build, the crew that plans your property is the crew standing on it when the plan meets the ground. The plan has to be honest from the first sketch, because the people who drew it have to build it.
